Long-Term Running Goals:

Finishing a marathon in under 3 hours. This is actually my goal in my upcoming marathon in August 2019 (Pocatello).

Personal:

Happily married with one kid. Chemical engineer, now studying statistics. Although I've always maintained a healthy level of fitness, I didn't pick up running until junior year at BYU. Now I live in Idaho, where I leave for work at 4:30am and don't get home until 5:30pm. I try to get a short run in before work and usually something during lunch. My focus in running is improving my marathon time, but I like to participate in all the races I can. I am a Honey Stinger Hive ambassador and hoping to qualify for the Boston Marathon for the first time this August by completing the Pocatello Marathon in under 3 hours. Say hello!

6.3 easy miles in the early morning at work. Cranked up to 2.5% and 8mph slowly and slowly went back down during the last 10 minutes. Just something really slight as there will be some small climbs in the upcoming race and I have literally been running in a pancake flat desert.

2.79 easy pushing Ellie in the stroller. She was so excited to go!

Conservatively executed workout this morning: 2x10minutes at threshold with 2 minute jogs. One 5 minute bout at threshold followed by a 1 minute jog and 5 minutes at another hard pace, but not quite as hard as the other sets. I wasn't feeling 100% and didn't want to completely wear myself out on a workout 10 days before a race. I hope to feel better during one other small workout planned for next week before the race. (7 in 50:47)

Easy in the early morning (6.3 in 49:13)

Decided to do nothing this email. It might've just been in my head, but I thought my Achilles might've felt a little warm throughout the afternoon. It wasn't very noticeable, but why take the risk when instead you can go eat out for dinner and celebrate your wife finishing her penultimate semester of school today! Went to eat at a Mexican restaurant that is constructed to look like a castle on the outside. Not sure why that is but the vegetable fajita was satisfactory.

Another easy 50 minutes in the early morning. This time I did a slow build and decline up to marathon pace and back down, then a small 10 minute hill (this was all simulated on the treadmill). Felt really good. One more long run tomorrow morning, and a workout planned for Tuesday. Other than that just calm cruise control journeys from here until race day!
